Pegasus Art Shop
We were appointed to oversee the conversion of a portion of Griffin Mill, Stroud into provision for artist studios and workshop space. Improved circulation between the upper two floors was achieved by incorporating a secondary stair, better connecting the existing retail space with the roofspace above. Restoration to what had been used as storage revealed a frame of existing timber beams, marked with old posters and tar from the building’s previous uses.
The site of Griffin Mill is made up of three substantial late 19th century brick buildings, originally part of a larger complex first recorded in 1599 which consisted of textile manufacturing and a saw mill. In addition to Pegasus Art Shop, the site hosts a number of light industrial units, retail spaces and workshops and is part of a wider network of historic mills in the Stroud Valleys.
