Imin Tagant
The ryad, formerly the house of the ‘Caid’ or local tribal chief, is located in Imin Tagant – ‘the wild place’ – near Ghazoua, Essaouira, Morocco. Prior to our involvement, the property was in a ruinous state, requiring structural work as well as extensive repairs. Assorted Studio advised on the renovation, which encompassed stone masonry, woodwork, and cosmetic repairs, working closely with local builders and craftsmen to ensure authenticity and continuity of place.
The project also introduced essential modern provisions, including electricity, water supply, a septic tank, and new sanitary spaces such as a shower room and bathroom. Throughout, the ambition was to retain as much of the building’s rustic charm as possible, making interventions only where necessary.
The works were guided by a commitment to detail, craftsmanship, and longevity, safeguarding the historic character of the house while enabling new uses. The building is now being reimagined as an art space, with workshop and studio provision, continuing its role as a place of community and creativity.
