Horst Festival, 2019

This project formed part of the 2019 edition of Horst Arts and Music Festival, an immersive three-day celebration of art, architecture, and music held at ASIAT, a former military base on the outskirts of Brussels. We assisted with elements of the festival coordination and build-up, working on site throughout the two-week construction phase leading up to the event.

Our contribution focused on the Brandlhuber+ stage, a timber-framed installation incorporating a reflective screen that interacted with sound, lasers, smoke, and the movement of the crowd. Designed to merge architectural structure with the sensory intensity of live performance, the installation demonstrated the fusion of material form with vibration, light, and atmosphere.

The project was delivered as a voluntary cultural collaboration with Horst Festival and Brandlhuber+, and realised with the support of a wide network of collaborators and sponsors, including Atelier Tomas Dirrix, 51N4E, KU Leuven, Emeka Ogboh, Philip Janssens, Manolis D. Lemos, Maarten Van Roy, Lito Kattou, Christopher Meier, Caroline Mesquita, Benni Bosetto, Jan De Vylder & Inge Vinck, and Fala Atelier.

Engaging directly with the adaptive reuse of ASIAT, the project highlights the role of architecture in shaping cultural events, transforming a former military site into a temporary landscape for artistic production and collective experience.
