Yewcroft
We are currently undertaking a whole-house retrofit of a 17th-century property in Bisley, Gloucestershire. The house sits within the Bisley Conservation Area and the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is subject to an Article 4 direction, underlining the property’s historic and architectural significance.
The works place equal emphasis on the wellbeing of occupants and the long-term stewardship of the building, delivered with a custodian mentality. Works include the replacement of failing cement-based mortar through the re-pointing of lime throughout. Integration of French drainage using geocell and improvements to fenestration has led to noticeable reductions in damp and humidity levels. These interventions have been helping to improve indoor air quality, regulate moisture, and mitigate against mould, creating a healthier, more comfortable living environment whilst reducing energy bills. The approach represents a meaningful investment in the fabric of the building, improving the resilience of the property and wellbeing of its inhabitants.
This strategy is further supported by lime-based, breathable, and sustainable materials to enhance thermal performance, alongside the sensitive integration of green energy infrastructure to reduce reliance on on-grid systems. Together, these measures enhance the performance of the family home while retaining its historic character.
The project has involved liaison with the local planning department through both pre-application and permitted development routes, ensuring the retrofit aligns with statutory requirements while respecting the building’s historic fabric and setting. The project reflects Assorted Studio’s ongoing commitment to sustainable retrofit, craftsmanship, and the thoughtful renewal of historic homes within sensitive contexts.
